If you have a blog, you are probably in a constant fight to draw more traffic to it. After all, what is the point of writing if no one is reading your posts.

If you are trying to earn money off your blog, obviously the more traffic you have, the more money you can make! So, how do you get those thousands of elusive visitors. Let’s take a look at a few ideas.

Write about something controversial. This draws people like flies to blood! Give your opinion on any controversial topic, such as partial birth abortion, politics, or the war. Even if your blog isn’t that popular, you are bound to get a good response, although not terribly favourable in many cases!

Make comments on other blogs. This is one of the blogger´s best tools for drawing traffic. Find other blogs through Google Alerts that are relevant to your theme and check them out. When you find a good or interesting post, add a comment. Don’t just say “good post”, since that won’t be very impressive to anyone. Add something like, “Your post was good, but I have also found . . .” and you will get people checking out your blog for more information.

Get on Technorati. If you haven’t claimed your blog on Technorati yet, then get over there and do it. Then set your blog to ping them every time you write something new. This allows other blogs to link to you and your rating will slowly go up. You can also use this site to find more blogs to comment on.

Start a blogging event. You may have seen special events that are set up on blogs, a fundraiser for a specific day, or something similar. Why not do your own. Let every blog you can find know about your event a week or two ahead and build up a buzz for it. On the given day, you should have heaps of people visiting your blog to learn more. You can choose any cause you want to support.

Submit your blog to blog directories. There are hundreds of blog directories out there and you can submit to all of them! Anyone looking for blogs can go to one of these directories and type in the keywords they are looking for. If you are on the list, your blog will come up and they can visit you!

Post frequently. If your blog is new or not very popular, you should be trying to make daily posts. Search engines love fresh meat and if you have constantly updated content, they will spider you more often and you will end up on more searches which automatically send more traffic your way.

With a little effort, you can gradually build your blog traffic up. It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. Just follow the ideas above and keep looking for more advice online. Publish quality content frequently and you’re bound to see an improvement!
